North Star Leadership in the AI Age

Maximizing Human Advantage in the AI Age

Vision: To advance humanity, we need to develop more North Star leaders with game-changing, category-defining ideas in the AI Age.

Problem: What is leadership when a team is no longer fully human? Leadership is critical to solve grand challenges, yet executives don’t always know how to self-diagnose their leadership style or maximize their impact in the AI Age.

Research: In my Harvard Business School study on high impact leaders, I found two archetypes of leaders. North Star Leaders seek deep impact by crossing sector boundaries in pursuit of a solution to a complex problem. They are visionary founders who think from first principles and relentlessly focus on ground truth to define new directions and product categories. Gold Star Leaders seek broad impact by rising high in influential organizations. They are strategic operators who can deftly navigate complex systems and relationships to achieve speed and results.

Key Issue: Both types of leaders are needed to create and build innovative, industry-shaking organizations.  However, ventures can experience friction if North Star and Gold Star C-suite executives are not aligned, especially as both are augmented by AI.

Mission: My mission is to accelerate high impact leaders and “All Star” teams through star leadership evaluation, insights, and development. Maximizing the human advantage in the AI Age takes awareness, learning agility, and practice.
